Bust of "Craig The Great"

As amazing as generative AI is in producing art, it has its limitations.

For one, it sometimes does weird things with human anatomy (e.g., extra heads, fingers, blends people together, etc.). And it also isn’t very effective at replicating specific people based on photo input.

The “Craig The Great” bust was produced while experimenting to see how well Midjourney can replicate an image of a photo portrait in different art styles (e.g., pencil, painting, vector comic-style, etc.). And then I tried “Greco-Roman statue bust on a pedestal in a museum” as an experimental prompt. The image it produced was a version of “Craig” idealized in Greco-Roman style.

And then imagination set off to work!

Revelation in Bethlehem

I spent several hours experimenting to derive at this image. And it barely touches the quality of the experience I was trying to convey. It’s impossible in visual art to begin to express something ineffable. Something beyond the senses and feeling–Infinite Love that animates the universe.

But why not try?

Even if the aim is futile, the celebration of the experience and delightful act of creating the image is well worth the effort!
